Another thing I encountered today that filled me with joy.

In Bb 2.0

It is perfectly safe, as far as I can tell, but needs sound. Really really needs sound. It will also temporarily stream a lot of stuff, so your network connection may be stressed and your computer may groan a bit. But it's worth it.

I encountered this today. I think it's lovely.

I do not love Thee

I do not love thee!—no! I do not love thee!
And yet when thou art absent I am sad;
And envy even the bright blue sky above thee,
Whose quiet stars may see thee and be glad.

I do not love thee!—yet, I know not why,
Whate'er thou dost seems still well done, to me:
And often in my solitude I sigh
That those I do love are not more like thee!

I do not love thee!—yet, when thou art gone,
I hate the sound (though those who speak be dear)
Which breaks the lingering echo of the tone
Thy voice of music leaves upon my ear.

I do not love thee!—yet thy speaking eyes,
With their deep, bright, and most expressive blue,
Between me and the midnight heaven arise,
Oftener than any eyes I ever knew.

I know I do not love thee! yet, alas!
Others will scarcely trust my candid heart;
And oft I catch them smiling as they pass,
Because they see me gazing where thou art.

My alarm clock pipes up with Radio 4 whenever it is time for me to wake up. This morning I was greeted with the words "... Senator Obama said in his victory speech ...". What nice words to start the day with, I thought.

Metaphors involving eggs, chickens and enumeration spring to mind, but today feels like a good day.

A friend of mine has a webcomic at http://comic.socksandpuppets.com. Please go and look at it, it is good and I want him to keep doing it.

Thank you.

I've formally (ie, in writing) accepted the job at ARM. I'm going to start on 7th April, so I get a little bit of a break between jobs. As seems to be becoming traditional, I shall be going into London for a mooch on Thursday or Friday.

I'm so very pleased about all this. What seemed - and was - a disaster a few months ago has resolved into something of a dream outcome: a new job starting just after my old one finishes, at a company that pretty much everyone I've spoken to reckons is a very good company to work for, and I'll be doing some really interesting work (which I sadly cannot talk about).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it all turns out as well as it seems to promise.

So, yeah, there is quite a bit of it - a couple of inches at least. It looks lovely, but I'm glad I'm not out camping in it, as many of my friends are right now.

Merry Easter :)

Jumping on the bandwagon ...

1. Choose a few of your own characters.
2. Make them answer the following questions.
3. Feel free to go ahead and add some questions yourself!! (I haven't)
4. Then tag three people.

Francis McDee, CUTT (LARP) )

Evelyn Brightworthy, CUTT (LARP) )

Fergal Marshall, Maelstrom (LARP) )

I'm tagging anyone who fancies doing this :)

My general levels of stress are fairly high at the moment - understandably, since I'm doing some involuntary job hunting and I hate doing that at the best of times. This stress manifests as general emotional up-and-down-ness, and I seem prone to getting wibbles about stuff much more than I usually am. This state of affairs is likely to persist until my job situation is sorted out. I just want to ask people to be tolerant if I seem miles away, inattentive, forgetful, etc. It's just things on my mind, nothing personal.

Thanks.

So. It seems my employer is making major cutbacks and it seems I'm to be laid off. I learned this on the day that I'm laid up in bed convalescing from minor surgery this morning. Great timing. Oh well, at least I have time to buff up my CV again.

If anyone is looking for a senior lowish-level systems engineer with a strong background in things like programming language implementation, browser development and system emulation, I'd be very happy to hear about it :)
